The Hispanic-American Conference on Audiovisual Translation, HispaTAV, is back

Audiovisual translation (AVT) is facing a fast-paced transformation. The growth of streaming platforms, the expansion of video games, technological innovation, and the evolution of accessibility are constantly reshaping the way audiovisual content is produced, adapted and consumed. And although this opens up new career opportunities, it also raises new challenges for those who work, research and teach in this field of translation.
In this scenario, spaces that encourage interaction and training are more important than ever. The HispaTAV Association, created in 2018 by Patrick Zabalbeascoa Terran, Head of the Department of Translation and Language Sciences at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), and Damián Santilli, Director of the MA in Translation Technology, Localisation and Audiovisual Translation, and current president of the Sworn Translators’ Association of the City of Buenos Aires, supports this transformation, strengthens the Spanish-speaking audiovisual translation community and fosters debate among professionals, teachers, researchers and students from America and Europe.
The Hispanic-American Conference on Audiovisual Translation came to life with that mission in mind. During its first three editions, it welcomed hundreds of participants in Argentina and Spain and hosted distinguished international professionals and academics. Throughout these years, the conference became a leading event to discuss industry trends, address the challenges the profession is facing, share research, and encourage dialogue on different perspectives on AVT.
The fourth edition of the conference, HispaTAV 4, organised by the HispaTAV Association together with Pompeu Fabra University, will take place on 28 and 29 August 2026 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This upcoming edition will once again bring together professionals and academics from America and Europe to address key topics such as accessibility, dubbing, subtitling, video game localisation, technology and AVT training, among many others. Leading speakers will include Nicholas Saunders, Anna Jankowska, José Javier Ávila-Cabrera, Katya Ojeda Iturbide, Pablo Fernández Moriano, Stavroula Sokoli and Gabriela Scandura. The submitted proposals will undergo a rigorous evaluation process conducted by a scientific committee with extensive experience and years of academic research in the field.
Apart from the academic activities, the aim of the conference is to position itself as a space to build collaborative networks among those who are part of the audiovisual world. In a field that evolves at a rapid pace, sharing experiences and points of view is essential to understanding the changes that are taking place, and reflecting together on the future of this profession. With this fourth edition, HispaTAV strengthens its commitment to support the community of audiovisual translators and foster new initiatives that promote professional growth on both sides of the Atlantic.
