TAC sends delegation to FIT Congress

The XXIII FIT Statutory Congress took place from 2 to 3 September 2025 at the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland. A six-member delegation of the Translators Association of China (TAC) led by Gao Anming, TAC’s Executive Vice President and Secretary General and Editor-in-Chief of the China International Communications Group, attended the event, as well as the FIT World Congress that followed.

At the Statutory Congress, Xu Rong, TAC’s Executive Council Member and Editor-in-Chief of the Foreign Languages Press, was elected as a vice president of FIT.

The XXIII FIT World Congress is one of the most influential events on the global translation and interpreting community’s calendar. With the theme of Mastering the Machine: Shaping an Intelligent Future, the Congress featured keynote speeches, themed presentations, an awards ceremony, panel discussions, and an exhibition hall. Around 400 translators, interpreters, and terminologists from across the world gathered to discuss and collaborate on solutions to the global challenges facing the profession.

At the awards ceremony on the first day of the congress, FIT announced the winners of its prestigious awards. Nominated by TAC, two senior Chinese translators and laureates of TAC’s Lifetime Achievement Award in Translation, Shi Qin’e of the Institute of Foreign Literature of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Yang Wuneng of Sichuan University, were awarded the Astrid Lindgren Prize and the Aurora Borealis Prize for Outstanding Translation of Fiction Literature, respectively. is the first time the Astrid Lindgren Prize has been awarded to a translator in Asia.

Among the many varied presentations and sessions was a panel dedicated to FIT’s five Regional Centres, whose representatives were present to elaborate on how they can work together to empower the community globally. Xing Yutang, TAC’s Executive Deputy Secretary General and FIT Asia Chair, shared the achievements, opportunities, and challenges of FIT Asia with the audience.
