ATIPCO attends its first FIT Statutory Congress in Geneva

On 2–3 September, Geneva played host to the International Federation of Translators (FIT) Statutory Congress, an unmissable, strategy-shaping event for the representatives of FIT’s global network of member translator and interpreter associations. This year, the congress focussed on governance, multilingual dialogue, and a vision of the future of our professions, with the Association des Traducteurs et Interprètes Professionnels du Congo (ATIPCO) taking an active role and showing up on the world stage.

Alexandra Cardyn: ATIPCO’s ambassador

Alexandra Cardyn, ATIPCO’s acting secretary, was delighted to officially represent our organisation at this prestigious congress, which was held at the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva. Her presence reflects ATIPCO’s increasing international engagement, as well as our commitment to actively contributing to FIT’s strategic decisions and shaping the future of our professions.

A packed programme that addressed the big issues

With strategy at its core, the congress covered key FIT governance issues and its vision for the future. Over two busy days, member association delegations engaged in discussions in FIT’s three official languages (French, English, and Spanish), with professional interpretation provided throughout.

ATIPCO: part of the global conversation

Being there was about far more than formal votes and deliberations: it showed our commitment to being a part of the global conversation language professionals are having. It was a unique opportunity to make connections, exchange ideas, and raise our association’s profile among international organisations and our colleagues from around the world.

What’s next?

To build on this momentum, ATIPCO is working on our contribution to International Translation Day (ITD 2025). We will soon be launching an awareness campaign to promote our professions and foster discussions in the language community around the industry’s current issues.
