We are sad to announce that Réal Paquette, certified translator and keen supporter of voluntary causes, passed away on 30 October 2023.
Réal was a staunch advocate for our professions throughout his career. He began his freelance career in 1974 and taught as a lecturer from 1982 to 2015 and was firmly committed to helping the next generation succeed.
Réal was FIT’s secretary general from 2017 to 2022. He was also president of the Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes agréés du Québec (OTTIAQ) from 2012 to 2018, its vice president of communications from 2011 to 2012, and vice president of professional affairs from 2010 to 2011. He also served on numerous committees and working groups for the association.
He was also a member of the Association of Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters of Manitoba and an honorary member of the Asociación Cubana de Traductores e Intérpretes (ACTI).
To quote him: ‘When I’m committed to a cause, I give it my all and never count the hours I spend on it.’
FIT extends its sincere condolences to his family and loved ones. The Translatio editorial team, on which he served from 2018 to 2022, will fondly remember his enthusiasm, passion for French, and his meticulous editing.
