The Colegio de Traductores del Perú (CTP) successfully held its Third International Congress on Translation and Interpreting (CITEI 2024) on 24 and 25 May at Los Delfines Hotel & Convention Centre. This event, organised in collaboration with Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC), Universidad Ricardo Palma (URP), Universidad César Vallejo (UCV), and Universidad Femenina del Sagrado Corazón (UNIFÉ), attracted more than 650 participants for two days of professional development and networking in an outstanding setting.
With the theme “One world, many voices: translators and interpreters in the digital age”, the congress explored the relevance of translation and interpreting in an interconnected world. Traditional perspectives alongside technological innovations transforming the profession fed the debate and the exchange of knowledge and experiences.
The opening ceremony was attended by university leadership from UPC, URP, UCV, and UNIFÉ, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Elizabeth Galdo Marín, and the President of CTP, Mary Ann Monteagudo.
The congress brought together academics, researchers, and specialists from a range of countries, including Spain, the United States, Canada, Chile, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, France, Switzerland, Russia, and Iceland. The distinguished speaker lineup included Frederic Chaume, Fernando Prieto, Franz Pöchhacker, Celia Rico Pérez, Catalina Iliescu, María J. Valero, Miguel Duro, Rosa Elvira Luna García, Chelo Vargas Sierra, Tony Rosado, and FIT President Alison Rodriguez.
With over 60 parallel sessions, 10 plenary sessions, and five roundtables, CITEI provided a unique venue for sharing insights and trends in specialised fields. Topics included the latest technologies applied to translation and interpreting, ethics, Indigenous languages, literary and audiovisual translation, and interpreting in legal and medical contexts.
The job fair allowed attendees to connect with companies and organisations from the industry. Additionally, the “meet and greet” with authors provided an opportunity for attendees to talk with distinguished speakers and have their books autographed.
Sponsors included Instituto Interuniversitario de Lenguas Modernas Aplicadas (IULMA), Universidad de Málaga (UMA), AIIC, FIT, and FIT LatAm, as well as the companies Multilingual, Bilingual, tbo., Avento, Lima Institute of Technical Studies (LITS), Wordfast, and Libun.
CTP thanks participants and collaborators for making CITEI 2024 an unforgettable event. We look forward to the next one, where we will continue exploring and celebrating diversity and innovation in our profession.
