An overarching goal and strategic focus areas
In 2023, after reviewing SFT’s strategy, the board set itself a five-year goal: to become the leading organisation for the translation and interpreting professions in France. The board has chosen strategic focus areas with specific action plans to achieve this aim, which include defining what the SFTs offers its members, developing its networks, defining its professional framework and improving its governance.
Professional events
International Translation Day (ITD)
SFT’s regional branches celebrated ITD 2023 around the theme proposed by FIT, ‘Translation unveils the many faces of humanity’, with no fewer than 12 events held throughout France and an online meet-up for our Global group.
Rencontres de la traduction et de l’interprétation (RTI)
The SFT organised a major event for translators and interpreters, the first of its kind in France. RTI was an opportunity for the 250 participants to meet, network and attend professional workshops and presentations. Encouraged by attendees rating the relevance of the topics covered at 4.5 out of 5 and giving this first event an overall score of 8.8 out of 10, the SFT is already preparing for the next one, which will take place in 2025.
A statistical survey of professional interpreting practices
Conducted in partnership with the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC) France, this survey will be used to steer the SFT’s and AIIC France’s activities over the next few years and will help interpreters with their positioning in the French market. More on this in the next issue of Translatio.
Projects for 2024
Among other projects for 2024, the SFT wants to strengthen its partnership with universities by giving more talks to Master’s in translation students. The SFT would also like to meet with other professional organisations in France to work together on a partnership to better defend our profession.
