On 22 July, the Colegio de Traductores del Perú (CTP) held its much anticipated event, the Second National Conference of Translation and Interpreting Faculty, at Hotel José Antonio Deluxe in Miraflores, Lima. Numerous educators attended, representing the four universities currently offering T&I degrees in Peru: Ricardo Palma University (URP), Sacred Heart Women’s University (UNIFE), César Vallejo University (UCV), and the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences (UPC). These institutions worked hard in collaboration with the National Council to present a variety of important seminars to attendees.
The event was attended by nationally recognised academic authorities. After delivering inspiring words during the opening ceremony, they were presented with a commemorative plaque by the CTP for their valuable contributions to growing the number of T&I faculty in Peru.
The event featured two keynote addresses by international speakers Dr Amparo Hurtado Albir and Dr Catherine Way. They were delighted and grateful that so many of their Peruvian colleagues attended and that they received so many questions related to their expertise in the fields of teaching and academic assessment.
The conference also included two plenary sessions by three outstanding Peruvian professors and researchers in the fields of translation, terminology, and interpreting: Dr Rosa Luna García, Dr Iván Villanueva, and Marco Ramírez. There was also a roundtable for sharing advances made by the four universities. Each university representative tackled themes like adapting information and communication technology (ICT) when teaching language and T&I courses, the use of pre- and post-editing in class, and general and specialised continuing professional development programmes for their faculty.
After a break for lunch, attendees participated in seminars and workshops, which were held simultaneously. At the end of the workshops, the educators got into working groups with set themes and shared their own experiences and reflections from the classroom. The event culminated with closing words from the National Council thanking attendees for their participation and an enjoyable networking session where colleagues continued forging links to develop future collaborative projects.
In September, the CTP the inaugural Inter-University Conference on Translation and Interpreting, which aimed to bring together translation and interpreting students – our future colleagues who will be responsible for guiding the career of translation and interpreting towards new horizons.
