Colegio de Traductores del Perú (CTP) is pleased to announce the IV International Congress on Translation and Interpreting (CITEI 2026), to be held on 13 and 14 November 2026 in Lima, Peru.
Two years after CITEI 2024, the congress continues to strengthen its role as a leading academic and professional forum, bringing together specialists from Peru and abroad to reflect on the transformations reshaping translation and interpreting in the twenty-first century.
Under the theme ‘The Transformation of Specialised Translators and Interpreters in the Face of the New Challenges of the 21st Century’, this edition seeks not only to examine the impact of artificial intelligence and automation on our profession but also to encourage broader reflection on how translators and interpreters can continue to evolve in an increasingly demanding environment.
The rapid expansion of machine translation, advanced language models and AI-assisted interpreting has created both opportunities and uncertainty for language professionals. Beyond the technological debate itself, these developments raise important questions concerning quality, reliability, ethics, confidentiality, sustainability and professional responsibility in digital environments.
One of the central themes of the congress will be the emergence of new professional profiles that combine linguistic expertise with technological, analytical and intercultural competencies. This event will bring together voices from both academia and professional practice to exchange perspectives on specialised translation and interpreting in high-demand sectors. Other topics will include emerging technologies and workflows, professional ethics, quality assurance, accreditation, employability, innovation, entrepreneurship and professional visibility in a rapidly evolving industry.
CITEI 2026 hopes to encourage a more personal and collective reflection: how can translators and interpreters continue to adapt without losing sight of the human purpose of their work? How do we strengthen our professional identity in times of uncertainty? And how can we continue building a profession that remains sustainable, collaborative and meaningful for future generations?
CTP also warmly invites colleagues from associations and organisations affiliated with FIT to take advantage of the preferential registration rates available for this professional community with which we share close ties, common challenges, and a strong commitment to communication, linguistic diversity and professional development.
More than a congress, CITEI 2026 aspires to be a space for encounter – one where we can reflect on the challenges ahead with humility, strengthen the bonds within our community, and continue shaping the future of translation and interpreting with confidence, responsibility and hope.
We would also be delighted to welcome colleagues from around the world to discover Lima, a city where history, culture and gastronomy come together in a unique way. Beyond the academic experience we are carefully preparing, participants will have the opportunity to enjoy Peru’s renowned cuisine, explore the historic and coastal beauty of Lima, and discover the richness of the surrounding regions. We sincerely hope CITEI 2026 will become not only a meaningful professional experience, but also a memorable cultural and human encounter for all those who join us.
