The recent addition of the Union professionnelle des traducteurs et interprètes jurés (BBVT-UPTIJ) to FIT represents a major milestone in our ongoing commitment to professional excellence. For some time, our association has aspired to join a global network of peers who share our values of quality, ethics, and collective support. We are proud to now offer Belgian sworn translators and interpreters greater international representation through this membership.

Aline Chauvier, member of our Board of Directors, represented BBVT-UPTIJ in Geneva at both the Council meeting and the FIT Statutory Congress. She was later joined by other board members Sophie Hennuy and Tristan-David Depré, the BBVT-UPTIJ vice-president. The atmosphere in Geneva was warm, collaborative, and inspiring, bringing together associations from across the world, all facing similar challenges.

Our membership approval process was smooth and transparent. Prior to Congress, we held several discussions with FIT representatives to present BBVT-UPTIJ’s mission and activities. At Congress, our application was formally reviewed and, following a vote, our association was welcomed as a full member, a memorable and significant milestone for all our members.

Becoming part of FIT paves the way for meaningful collaboration and knowledge sharing with international counterparts, particularly in areas central to our mission: sworn translation and interpreting, professional ethics, and advocacy for fair working conditions. These core principles have consistently guided our work in Belgium, and we are confident that international engagement and the exchange of best practices will further strengthen the profession.

Founded in 2014, BBVT-UPTIJ brings together sworn translators and interpreters registered in the Belgian National Register of Sworn Translators and Interpreters and actively advocates with public authorities. The association focuses on defending professional rights, improving working conditions, and promoting the wellbeing of language professionals. Above all, we strive for sound regulation, balanced recognition, and greater appreciation for the essential role that sworn translators and interpreters play in upholding the rule of law.

By joining FIT, BBVT-UPTIJ reaffirms its commitment to international cooperation and to advancing the standing and quality of sworn translation and interpreting worldwide.
