The Asociación Panameña de Traductores e Intérpretes (APTI) has selected the inaugural recipient of the new Doctora Etilvia Arjona Chang Medal, a recognition created to honour APTI’s founder, who made history as the only Latin American to have received FIT’s prestigious Pierre-François Caillé Medal in Tampere, Finland in 2005. This new award aims to continue her legacy by recognising excellence and commitment in our profession.
The selection committee chose Miguel Ángel Urrutia as the first winner of this distinguished award. His career, marked by an unwavering commitment to interpreting, makes him a role model for translators and interpreters worldwide.
Several high-calibre candidates were considered for this medal, reflecting the talent and quality of the professionals in our community. The awards ceremony was an emotional moment where attendees enthusiastically celebrated Miguel Ángel’s contributions to strengthening the field.
The creation and presentation of this medal represents a milestone for APTI, reaffirming our commitment to promoting excellence in translation and interpreting.
