On 26 October 1989, the Provincial Executive Branch endorsed Law No. 7,843 and created the Colegio de Traductores Públicos de la Provincia de Córdoba (CTPPC), a civil nonprofit organisation guided by bylaws. Under this law, the CTPPC’s first location was opened on 19 April 1990, and we began to carry out administrative procedures relating to the institution and the professional activities of our members.
Over the last 35 years, our professional association has operated from various locations in Córdoba. We reached an institutional milestone in 2019 when we opened our first CTPPC offices on 2 August. Having our own location had been an unachievable dream for many years, but we never lost sight of this important goal for our association. This dream had now come true, representing the combined efforts of successive institutional management teams and all our members.
A few months after our brand-new location opened, the COVID-19 pandemic was declared and we closed our doors, just like everywhere else. With physical movement restricted by the government, combined with worldwide digital modernisation, in June 2020, we were able to digitise the validation process and the use of digital signatures by members who are sworn translators. This innovation required us to hire more administrative staff and demonstrated the need to expand our existing facilities.
With this growth, in April 2024, we procured a new office in an area of the city that combines both history and business. On 27 September, we opened our second location in a half-floor space specially designed for receiving members and clients, with the latest technology in the reception area, training room, meeting room, and a work area for members. The opening ceremony marked the beginning of ‘translation month’, culminating on 26 October with a celebration of our 35th anniversary.
These celebrations included three free or very low-cost training sessions for members on relevant subjects: 1) translating seals, emblems, logos, barcodes, and QR codes; 2) DTP tools for translation: managing complex formats; and 3) legal translation and plain language: commitment to the right to understand. All these sessions were run by outstanding industry professionals with strong track records in related areas.
